Qurl Awards
Each week the Qurl team rummages through the sites recently Qurled and selects the most innovative, promising and entertaining from the results.
We then spend the weekend shouting, screaming and generally insulting each other in multiple mediums until we narrow the list to one winner.
Where possible we try focus on sites that have yet to court mainstream media attention.
If you have encountered a site you feel is worthy of winning this award, please submit a site suggestion.

21/01/08 - Whoshouldyouvotefor.com
This site provides voters in the 2008 US presidential election with a simple tool to see how the main candidates represent their views. http://qurl.com/Votefor 02/07/06 - Scary Go Round
28/03/06 - Banksy
Okay, so he might be becoming a bit of a cliche, but we still love Banksy, and we especially love this site http://qurl.com/banksy 14/03/06 - I Resign
We've all been there - trying to write our resignation letter but having trouble finding the words. This site gives you handy to use templates, nifty financial tools and that all important guide to "Resigning with Style and Dignity" http://qurl.com/resign 28/02/06 - Pledge Bank
What to do something to make the world better? Can't do it on your own? (or want to make more than just an individual difference) Don't know how to find the people to help? Try Pledge Bank http://qurl.com/pledge 14/02/06 - Any Question Answered
Only good for UK mobile users, but a surprisingly good way of solving pub arguements, cheating at pub quizzes and deciding which pub to go to... http://qurl.com/aqa 30/01/06 - eBay Google Maps Mashup
This magnificent mashup brings two of the best together: eBay and Google Maps: enter your postcode/zip and what you're looking for and you can see where people are selling stuff near to you. It really works, and surely it's only a matter of time before eBay has to offer something like this as standard. http://qurl.com/mashup 23/01/06 - Memepool
For me, the best of the many sites offering cool picks of the web: short, simple and straight to the point, but still with room for snappy wit. Co-created by del.icio.us founder Joshua Schachter, the site's links are always chosen carefully. Pure gold for the bored at work. http://qurl.com/memepool 16/01/06 - Technorati
When Dante entered the Inferno, he did at least have Virgil to guide him. Technorati is a sane guide to the prodigious blogverse - search for blogs, and for hot topics of discussion across the internet. With tens of millions of blogs out there now, a map like this is essential for finding the best of them. http://www.technorati.com/ 09/01/06 - Fundable
Brilliant: a simple way to get a group of people together to commit to a shared goal, with a built-in mechanism for making sure that everyone pays up. Users can now add Fundable code to their own website for people to sign up to a specific pledge through that, too. The site is also nicely designed: very easy to get the hang of it. http://www.fundable.org/ 02/01/06 - Yubnub
'A social command line for the web.' This is one of the cleverest ideas I've seen in a long time: a simple one-field form enables you to search loads of the web's biggest sites (Google, Wikipedia, many many others) with a simple abbreviation. Better still, you can create your own abbreviations for searching/accessing yet more sites. A strong contender for everyone's home page of the future. http://www.yubnub.org/ | |
